Role Play: Giving advice to a co-worker

Scenario

  • Student: Your coworker is in danger of getting fired due to poor performance (showing up late, not finishing his/her work on time, having a bad attitude).  He/she will ask for your advice on how to improve.
  • Tutor: Your manager has made it clear that he’s unhappy with your performance, and you are afraid you might get fired.  Ask your kind-hearted coworker for advice on how to improve.

Role Play: Reasoning with your boss

Scenario

  • Student: Your boss has been forcing you to work more and more overtime every week. You have also been given many extra responsibilities that do not fall under your job description. You haven’t been able to spend much time with your family, and your husband/wife is threatening to divorce you. Please talk to your boss.
  • Tutor: You are the manager of a busy company. One of your employees wants to talk with you.

Role Play: Bank Fraud

Scenario

  • Student: You are a criminal. Call the other student and pretend to be an employee of ‘SmartBank.’ Tell them there has been a problem at the bank, so all customer PIN codes must be reset. Try to get his/her bank card number & PIN.
  • Tutor: You have an account with a bank called SmartBank. Soon, you will get a phone call.
