Her ne kadar yerini “run” gibi kelimelere kaptırmış olsa da 430 farklı anlamıyla hala listenin başlarında yer alıyor! Tabii ki anlamlarının tümünü bir günde öğrenmek pek gerçekçi bir plan değil, fakat bu yazımızı okuyarak en yaygın olarak kullanılan anlamlarından bazılarını öğrenebilirsiniz. O halde ready, set, go!
Set: to put (something or someone) in a particular place / (bir şeyi ya da bir kişiyi) belli bir yere koymak
I’m going to set a vase full of flowers on the table. / Masaya çiçeklerle dolu bir vazo koyacağım.
Set the baby on the floor so he can play. / Bebeği yere koy ki oynayabilsin.
- Set aynı anda to put into a specified state / belli bir durum haline getirmek anlamına da gelir. Tabii bu anlamında kullanıldığı zamanlarda Türkçe çevirisi de cümleye göre değişkenlik gösterecektir. Örneğin:
Set me free! / Beni özgür bırak!
It is illegal to set fire to the forest. / Ormanı ateşe vermek suç teşkil eder.
- Set ayrıca to begin or get started / başlamak anlamına da gelir.

- Set the tone: establish a general mood or feeling / ortamdaki genel duyguyu, tonu belirlemek
The highly melancholic first part sets the tone for the rest of the movie. / Filmin oldukça melankolik olan ilk kısmı geri kalanında da tasvir edilen duyguyu belirliyor.
- Set: when the sun sets, it moves down in the sky and disappears / güneşin batması
The sun sets beautifully here. / Güneş burda çok güzel batıyor.
- Set: assign (someone) to undertake an action or perform a service / görevlendirmek

- Set: to adjust a device for a particular operation / bir cihazı kurmak, ayarlamak

School starts at eight, so I’ll set my alarm clock for seven in the morning. / Okul sabah sekizde başladığı için alarmı saat yediye kuracağım.
- Set the stage: Sahne kurmak
